Ahmed Eid احمد عيد Ahmed Eid’s artwork feels truly enigmatic. With confident line-work and an intriguing palette, extensive studies and sketches including bold portraiture, Ahmed has found a voice and vision uniquely his own. Recent works incorporate scenes of pastoral animals such as camels and donkeys—exhibiting a mastery of anatomy, proportion, and compositions—that are oddly surreal in their striking mood, peculiar luster, and uncanny Egyptian-ness. His painting of a puppet vendor on a cart, encircled by donkeys, feels like a scene one might stumble upon in a Luxor alleyway, nondescript yet curious, mundane yet beguiling to the eye. His work has something fantastically enticing about it that makes one long to see more from this young artist, whose future will most certainly be both promising and exciting to behold. —D.N.
