Aliaa El-Tayeb علياء الطيب Aliaa El-Tayeb is a promising young artist and recent graduate from the Faculty of Fine Art, South Valley University in Luxor. Her paintings are crafted studies of colors and immense details, and sensitive to capturing the subtle curves of an ancient Egyptian tomb ceiling, or luminous folds of fabric in a still life. Seeking deeper meanings and inspirations in her two part series entitled “Paradox,” she contrasts a formation of soldiers wielding their shields in an ancient temple scene to a contemporary military scene from the Revolution, one marching across carved geometric water patterns of the river, and the other seeming to stand on the surface of a great tide. Both paintings take on surreal qualities, especially side by side, and one cannot help but pause and think… Luxor Art Gallery looks forward to more from Aliaa and her enigmatic artwork. —D.N.
