Katrina Vrebalovich كاترينا فريبالوفيتش The ethereal artwork of Katrina Vrebalovich is like drifting into the elixir of dreams, full of shimmering light and atmospheric glimmerings. She is an alchemist of abstracts, experimenting with colors, textures, and materials to create her visions of the sublime, influenced by ancient Egyptian mythology and Mother Earth herself. She often refers to the cosmos in the titles of her work, and indeed, she embraces the otherworldliness of the creative insights of her art to transport both herself and her viewer into another world beyond our own. Her purpose, she says, is “a universal message of unification, peace and unconditional love.” The piece (featured here) entitled “Love in One-ness” resembles a tree cocooning a formation within, while its branches reach out to encompass all it can touch. In her painting entitled “Tahrir” or “The Road Ahead,” inspired by the one year anniversary of the Egyptian Revolution, she contemplates the past and the future for the country in an oracle of radiant colors and celestial shapes that is like a beautiful chaos spiraling into a collective formation of hope and optimism. Katrina’s paintings, murals, mosaics, and jewelry all capture her passionate energy and joy for life. A longterm resident of Egypt with returns to her country of Norway, Katrina currently has her home and studio in Luxor. —D.N.
