NADA NADA

Nada Nada     Is there anything more personal and revealing than a painted self portrait? Egyptian artist Nada Nada fearlessly examines her own lovely image, cast in dark shadows and moods, humored and humbled, and courageously sharing with us an anxious isolation. While much of her art feels rooted to her Egyptian heritage, the unsettling triptych paintings “After Covid-19” are raw, apocalyptic, and ironic, with a collage of newspaper clippings that connect her with the world’s pandemic peculiarities. Like diary entries, each painting and illustration is a moment in her life, a feeling, and a memory captured. Uninhibited with materials and unlimited in her creativity, Nada is co-founder of a design studio called “Choas” for her hand sculpted jewelry and other crafted items that, like her paintings, capture her wit and unique style. —D.N.
