Humans of Upper Egypt is a Heritage Documentation Society with a passionate desire to capture the tender essence, stark reality, and raw beauty of Egypt’s southern regions and village communities. With a sensitive eye, the photographers navigate through rural environments connecting intimately with the people they encounter, as fellow Egyptians and compassionate humans. Their photographs express glimmers of joy, dignity, and pride emerging from shadows and struggles. Through their images, Humans of Upper Egypt hopes to convey the soul of a people whose deeply rooted culture and depth of spirit truly make them unique as the children of Oum El Donia, the Mother of the World: Egypt. Luxor Art Gallery is honored to present the invaluable work of this unique team of artists.

“With portraits of daily life in Upper Egypt, Humans of Upper Egypt conveys the daily hurdles, unreliable dreams, and harsh realities that people choose to ignore. Every picture tells a unique story of a human who continues to pursue the meaning of humanity in this ever changing world. Our vision for Humans of Upper Egypt is to popularize values, culture, habits, and traditions of Upper Egyptian society with photography, cinematography, and other creative expressions. We want to deepen the connections between different denominations in society through visual storytelling, with the belief that we can raise up the values of society.” —Humans of Upper Egypt
