SUSAN LEZON

Susan Lezon     Sue Lezon has a long relationship with Egypt working as a professional Egyptological photographer since the 1980s for the The Epigraphic Survey of the Oriental Institute, University of Chicago, based in Luxor. Her detail-oriented eye in her work is balanced with a unique, sometimes obscured view of the world in her artistic photography. She sees things often overlooked, and has a gorgeous sense of composition with saturated contrasts of black and white or color that gives her imagery a dreamy sensibility. Her work might often be mistaken for watercolors, because they are almost surreally perfect moments she captures. Luxor Art Gallery is pleased to present this artist in the gallery, and looks forward to sharing more of her work in the future! –D.N.

From State University of New York, Plattsburg: Sue Lezon got her first camera at the age of twelve, and has rarely been without one since that time. Her interest in image making, combined with a love of ancient history and travel, has taken her around the world as an archaeological photographer for over twenty-five years. She is also passionate about being an educator and teaches beginning, intermediate and advanced photography at Plattsburgh. Sue received her B.F.A. from Emerson College in Boston, and her M.F.A. in Fine Art Photography from the University of Massachusetts/Hampshire College in Amherst. She is currently making silver gelatin prints from negatives shot with Holga and Diana cameras during recent archaeological work in Egypt.
