Wafa Nashashibi Wafa Nashashibi's artwork is bold, intense, and deeply feminine. There is a battle in her canvases between light and darkness, chaos and form, the female spirit and her individuality versus the crowd. Her figures struggle to take form and reveal themselves, and the tensions and perplexity of that struggle is raw and turbulent, utilizing fluid brushstrokes and soft watercolor techniques with frenetic globs of paint and accident à la Jackson Pollack. But her vision is distinctly her own, exploring the Egyptian woman amidst an ever changing, chaotic world. —D.N.
